Stewart Stevenson MSP will be addressing the seminar on issues of Climate Change as a result of the Climate Change Act and Copenhagen.
This will be followed by a variety of speakers covering the impacts of Climate Change on a local level and will finish off with a workshop:
Climate Change Adaptation Workshop for Business
This interactive workshop will:
- Help to identify how businesses are vulnerable to climate change
- Make the business case for adapting to climate change
- Learn how to use the UKCIP BACLIAT tool
- Link climate change risks to common business practices – risk management, business continuity, business growth
The workshop will focus on using the UKCIP Business Areas Climate Impacts Assessment Tool (BACLIAT), which provides a simple checklist for organisations to assess the potential impacts of climate change on their business. Participants will be encouraged to consider the opportunities as well as the threats from a changing climate, under the following headings:
- Markets: Changing demands for goods and services;
- Logistics: Vulnerability of supply chain, utilities and transport infrastructure;
- Premises: Impacts on building design, construction, maintenance and facilities management;
- Process: Impacts on production processes and service delivery;
- People: Implications for workforce, customers and changing lifestyles;
- Finance: Implications for investment, insurance and stakeholder reputation.
