Site visit to Woodend Barn - a Community Theatre with a difference. See the mini-district heating system and sustainable timber design, with talks from the designers and developers.
The event is being held to cover a number of items, including:
· showcasing the biomass mini-district system funded by CARES and Aberdeenshire Council;
· showcasing the newly built Café/Bistro which is timber built and uses local larch. The café will also be promoting “slo-“ and organic food.
· ScotCAT’s work in developing the area around Woodend as a centre demonstrating sustainable living. This includes the allotments; eco-housing currently being promoted under the Aberdeenshire Council’s Main Issues Report; Eco-Chalets for which a feasibility study is about to be carried out funded by Scottish Enterprise;
· Banchory District Initiative’s in projects aimed at greening Banchory;
· BERI’s (Banchory’s Energy Reduction Group) work promoting energy reduction in Banchory;
· Robert Gordon’s University master plan for development in and around Banchory;
· Phase NRG’s work in renewables in installing biomass and solar systems, carrying out Energy Performance Certificates and Thermal Imaging Surveys and working with partners in wind and hydro;
· HoBESCo’s work in supplying heat through larger district heating systems;
· Bancon’s work in building environmentally improved housing under the Code for Sustainable Homes; and,
· Leys Estate and its work in whole farm carbon accounting and other rural energy projects.
